MARSHALL (KMHL) – The Marshall City Council has approved a plan to build more than 100 new parking spots at Red Baron Arena in Marshall.

The plan approved by the city council last night will build an additional 106 parking spots in a new lot on the south side of the arena. The city is also planning to re-stripe the current arena lot, which will result in a loss of 27 parking spots – however city officials estimate the project would increase the amount of available parking spots at the arena to between 250-to-260.

Estimated cost of the project is $450,000.

The city also agreed to partner with the Marshall Area Hockey Association to create a new outdoor rink near the arena as part of the excavation project.

MAHA lost its outdoor rink near the middle school because the association donated its boards to the city of Ghent.
