The funeral service for Byron Kosen, 82, of rural Cottonwood, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at English Lutheran Church in Cottonwood.  Visitation will be Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 6:30 p.m. at English Lutheran Church.  Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment will follow the service at the English Lutheran Cemetery in Cottonwood.  The Sunset Funeral & Cremation Service in Echo is handling the arrangements.  

Byron Richard Kosen was born on December 19, 1941, in Wood Lake, MN, to Harry and Gerda (Kammeyer) Kosen.  He was baptized on February 1st, 1942, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Posen Township and confirmed on May 22, 1955, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake.  Byron attended Wood Lake Public school through 9th grade and attended Agriculture School at the University of Morris for 10th – 12th grade.  On December 25, 1960, Byron was united in marriage to June Fischer at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake.  The couple lived and farmed in Posen Township until 1973 when they purchased a farm in Stanley Township.  Byron was an active member of English Lutheran Church and served in many different positions.  He loved singing in the church choir.  He also enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, drawing, riding cycle and working with his grandsons.  Byron enjoyed restoring tractors, machinery and old cars, especially his Packard.

Byron died on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Prairie Home Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood.  He is survived by his wife, June, of Cottonwood, children Sherry Franzoia of Blue Springs, MO, Eric Kosen (Taunya) of Vesta, Lance (Laura) Kosen of Cottonwood; grandchildren Jessica (Craig) Nagel-Nnebedum, Shane (Katarina) Kosen, Nicholas Kosen, Tanner Kosen, Dakota (Lindsee) Kosen, David (Janan) Franzoia, Austin, Kosen and Tyler Franzoia; great-grandchildren Waylon, Oliver and June; siblings Donald (Donna) Kosen of Lakeland, MN, David (Inez) Kosen of Jackson, Bruce (Rita) Kosen of Marshall, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one step-granddaughter and sister-in-law Cathy Kosen.
