UNDATED (LEARFIELD) – The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning about scams involving callers pretending to be government officials amid COVID-19.

The BBB’s Bao (bau) Vang says the scams are often very convincing.

“Many times the caller i-d has displayed actual numbers and names of government agencies, so that it looks legitimate,” said Vang. “Number two, the callers often have some personal information about you.”

Vang says many of the scams involve callers claiming to be tax officials, representatives from the Social Security Administration, officials from the Centers for Disease Control or COVID-19 contact tracers.

A recent AARP survey found that 44-percent of people in the U-S have been contacted by one of these impersonators.
