SAINT PAUL, MN — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says the FBI has declined to share information related to several recent shootings under investigation.
In a statement released Feb. 16, Superintendent Drew Evans said the Federal Bureau of Investigation formally notified the BCA on Feb. 13 that it will not provide access to information or evidence it collected in the Jan. 24 shooting death of Alex Pretti.
The BCA also reiterated requests for information, evidence access and cooperation in its investigations into the Jan. 7 shooting death of Renee Good and the Jan. 14 shooting of Julio Sosa-Celis. It remains unclear whether information will be shared in those cases.
Evans described the lack of cooperation as concerning and unprecedented but said the BCA remains committed to conducting thorough, independent and transparent investigations. He added that the agency has informed the FBI and the Department of Justice that it is willing to share information it has gathered and would welcome a joint investigation if the federal stance changes.
The BCA said it will continue pursuing legal avenues to obtain relevant information and will present its findings, without recommendation, to appropriate prosecutorial authorities for review.
Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to contact the BCA at 651-793-7000 or by email at bca.tips@state.mn.us
