MARSHALL—A Florence man has been charged with first-degree arson in connection with a house fire that occurred Monday morning.  29-year-old Moises Reyes was charged Tuesday in Lyon County District Court after allegedly setting fire to his mother’s home on Harrison Avenue in Florence. MILROY, Minn.—A man died Wednesday morning after becoming trapped in a grain bin in rural Redwood County.  The Redwood County Sheriff's Office said it received a report at 9:33 a.m. on July 16 about a person trapped inside a grain bin in the 13000 block of Minnesota Highway 19. MARSHALL—A renewable fuel tax credit set to expire in 2027 will now continue through 2029, thanks to a provision in the federal budget bill signed by President Trump. The Minnesota Bio-Fuels Association says the extension of the Clean Fuels Production Tax Credit could provide significant benefits to local producers. SAINT PAUL, Minn.—Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has joined a coalition of 23 attorneys general and two states in suing the Trump Administration over what they call an unlawful and unconstitutional freeze of $6.8 billion in federal education funding. COTTONWOOD, Minn.—On Friday at 8:38 in the evening, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a two-vehicle collision near the intersection of County Road 9 and County Road 22 near Cottonwood. A 2006 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle being driven by a 55-year-old Balaton man was traveling southbound on County Road 9. FRANKLIN, Minn. — A Franklin man was seriously injured Saturday night in a motorcycle crash in the city of Franklin.  According to the Renville County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 911 call around 9:00 p.m. on July 12 near the intersection of 1st Street South and 5th Avenue East. The crash involved a 1994 Harley-Davidson motorcycle driven by 27-year-old Jordan Lund.  Authorities say Lund was traveling north on 1st Street South when he lost control while navigating a curve, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway and crash. SAINT PAUL, Minn. — A special election will be held Sept. 16 to fill the vacant Minnesota House seat in District 34B, following the death of State Representative Melissa Hortman on June 14.  Governor Tim Walz issued the writ of special election Friday, citing the need to ensure continued representation for residents in the Anoka and Hennepin County district.
