Eunice Arlene (Christensen) Waller was born November 1, 1929, in Pontiac, MI, to Walter and Rachel (Leitner) Christensen. As a child, Arlene moved with her family to farm near Canby. When she was in high school, her parents bought the Rock Valle Store in Echo, and Arlene graduated from Echo High School. While out dancing one night, Arlene met the man who would one day become her husband, Jerome Waller. On October 22, 1949, Arlene and Jerome were united in marriage in Granite Falls. The couple made their home in Granite Falls, until Jerome’s death on November 25, 2009. In 2015, Arlene moved into Granite Ridge Place. Arlene loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked to stay busy, throughout her life working as a clerk at Supervalu (later Economart), at the Granite Falls tuberculosis sanatorium, and cleaning houses, in addition to the duties of a farmer’s wife. She was a wonderful cook and baker, known for her cookies, potato klub, lefse, hamburger gravy, and buttermilk pancakes. She loved hosting get-togethers and feeding family and friends. Arlene enjoyed gardening, sewing, going to garage sales, and photography. In her younger years, she danced, bowled, and played softball. Arlene enjoyed visiting with people, especially while playing cards and Rummikub.
Arlene died on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson.
She is survived by her children Karon (Robin) Spaude, Ardell (Rhoda) Waller, and Marie (Doug) Pederson; grandchildren Darrik (Lani) Spaude, Ian (Molly) Spaude, Conrad (Kari) Spaude, Ryan (Susan) Waller, Andy (Sarah) Waller, and Brook Pederson (Kaylie Amborn); great-grandchildren Arik (fiancée Elizabeth) and Anika Spaude, Josie and Sam Spaude, Alek, Ava, and Cadon Spaude, Bergan and Aria Pederson, and Kenny Amborn; and sister-in-law Ione Christensen; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Jerome, and her siblings Bud Christensen and Ida Gillund.
