Andrew “Andy” Hacker, 95, of Morgan, Minnesota, died Friday, July 30, 2021, at Gil-Mor Manor in Morgan. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Morgan. Burial will be held at the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery in Morgan. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 3, 2021, from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Arrangements are with Nelson-Hillestad Funeral and Cremation Service of Morgan.
Andrew George Hacker was born on August 18, 1925 to Joseph and Anna (Reding) Hacker in Morgan Township, Redwood County, in Minnesota. He grew up on the farm by Morgan and attended school in Morgan through the 8th grade. Andrew joined the Navy in August of 1944 and was discharged as Seaman 1st Class in June of 1946. He married Marjorie Roiger on January 16, 1951, at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield. Following their marriage, the couple moved to the farm in Eden Township, Brown County. Together, they farmed until 1992, when they retired and moved to Morgan. They enjoyed playing cards, dancing, gardening and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Following Marge’s passing in 2009, Andrew moved to Lake Villa Maria Apartments in Sleepy Eye in 2011. Andrew was an avid Twins fan, enjoyed his fishing trips to Canada, and loved his family and the Lord. Church was very important to Andrew as he was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic minister and on the Parish Council, was a choir member, lector and volunteered for church and school. He served 3 terms on the Morgan Public School Board, was a member of Catholic United Financial, a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans and the VFW. Andrew was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus where he started the Morgan Chapter and was a member for 60 years. During this time he was Grand Knight for 2 terms and District Deputy for 4 years. He also served as Chairman of the State Rural Life for 2 years.
Andrew is survived by his children, Mark (Marilyn) Hacker of Marshall, Denise Kalkhoff (Edwin Steffl) of Morgan, Douglas (Jo Anne) Hacker of Ellendale, Jerry (Shirley) Hacker of Ortonville, Lisa (Curt) Jacobsen of Garrison, and Chris (Lori) Hacker of Morgan. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Lucille Hacker and Ruth Hacker both of Morgan. Andrew is preceded in death by his parents – Joseph and Anna, wife – Marge, son-in-law – Kenneth Kalkhoff, grandchild-in-law – Kaitlin Jacobsen, brothers – Clem Hacker and Allan Hacker and sisters – Irene (Art) Wintheiser and Doris Rehder.
Memorials are preferred to Minnesota Society of the Blind or Lake Villa Maria Apartments in Sleepy Eye.
