Agnes Emma (Klein) Vortherms, age 97, of Westbrook, MN passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Oak Terrace in Le Sueur. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 23rd at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday April 22nd at Westbrook Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in the Westbrook Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to the Westbrook Public Library, Mary & Martha’s Food Pantry, or St. Anthony Catholic Church. Agnes Emma (Klein) Vortherms was born January 16, 1929, to William and Clara (Hoffman) Klein in Hospers, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in Hospers, IA and attended school at St. Anthony Catholic School through 8th grade, then in 1983 earned her GED through Westbrook schools. May 26, 1953 marked the day Agnes was joined in marriage with the love of her life, Leo Vortherms in Hospers, Iowa. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage together. Together, the couple farmed near Sanborn, IA for five years, before moving to Ocheyedan, IA for one year, then in 1960, they made their home near Westbrook, MN. They farmed until 1993, and then in 2011, they moved into Westbrook. For many years, Agnes finished, refinished, and reupholstered furniture, as well as finishing woodwork in homes, and refinishing pews in several area churches. Agnes was a member of St. Anthony CCW, Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, and Home Extension. She enjoyed spending her free time reading, quilting, crocheting, and traveling.
Agnes is survived by her children: Ruth Vortherms of Le Sueur, Joyce Vortherms of Westbrook, Glen (Jana) Vortherms of Sun City, AZ, & Mary (Darin) Hertwig of Buffalo, MN; grandchildren: Michael, Emily, Kaitlin (Ross McKinnon), & Marissa (Austin Rampy) Vortherms; great-granddaughter, Mira McKinnon; brother, Arthur Klein; siblings-in-law: Joan Klein, Robert McCoy, & Ellen Vortherms; and many other relatives & friends. She is preceded by her parents; husband Leo, in November 2025; son John, in January 2014; siblings: Leonard Klein, Norbert Klein, Vincent (Marilyn) Klein, Oscar (Marie) Klein, Ambrose (Blanche) Klein, Mildred (Linus) Goebel, and Germaine McCoy.
