St. Paul (KMHL)- U.S. Senator Tina Smith has introduced a bill that would expand the use of free, online college textbooks, allowing professors, students, researchers, and others to freely access material as a supplement or alternative to traditional textbooks.

Smith says too many college students are struggling to make ends meet, and spending “hundreds of dollars” on textbooks doesn’t help.

She says two-thirds of college students admit they don’t purchase textbooks because of the high cost.
