Mass of Christian Burial for Donna Maeyaert, 92, of Marshall, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 6:30 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. at the Remembrance Center. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall. Arrangements with the Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall.
Donna Mae Maeyaert was born on January 23, 1934, in Ghent, Minnesota, to Hubert and Emma (Zwach) Van Keulen. She grew up on the family farm near Ghent and attended St. Eloi Catholic School for eight years. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1951 and went on to attend St. Benedict College in St. Joseph for one year. On June 10, 1958, Donna was united in marriage to Donald Maeyaert at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. Together, they farmed and raised their family near Minneota until moving to Marshall in 1989. Donna was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and was an active member of St. Eloi Catholic Church and, later, Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Donna was instrumental in establishing Eucharistic Adoration at Holy Redeemer. She also faithfully brought Holy Communion to the sick and elderly and was a strong advocate for the sanctity of human life. Above all, Donna cherished her family. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took great joy in being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She loved to dance and play cards, and she and Don enjoyed many memorable trips with friends and family. Donna had a generous heart and often shared beautiful bouquets of flowers from her garden with others and she sent countless cards to friends and family to recognize special events. She will also be fondly remembered for her amazing homemade pies and for always making sure there was plenty of food on hand for anyone who stopped by.
After spending eight years in memory care at Boulder Creek, Donna died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the age of 92, at Avera Hospital in Marshall. Her family will miss her dearly, but they are comforted by the faith she lived so faithfully and by the many wonderful memories she leaves behind. They are grateful for the life she shared with them and for the countless ways she showed them what it means to love, to serve, and to have faith. They will carry her memory in their hearts and give thanks for the gift of their beloved mom, grandma, and great-grandma. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church or St. Eloi Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children, Deb (Lee) Lindahl of Blaine, Doug (Shirley) Maeyaert of Minneota, Dan (Shari) Maeyaert of Minneota, and Denise (Bob) Piszczor of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandchildren, Lisa (Saben) DeSmet, Ross (Kelly) Lindahl, Nicole (Brad) Tombers, Cody (Mikayla) Lindahl, Ashley (Nick) Cook, Mark (Micaela) Maeyaert, Jonathan (Brynn) Maeyaert, Sara (Connor) Haken, Krista Maeyaert, Kayla Maeyaert, Kelsey (Adam) Thompson; great-grandchildren, William, Kennedy, Emma, Fayth, Grayson, Ryker, Kate, James, Leroy, Thomas, Theo, Charlotte, Austin, Jase, Aiden, Kizer, Crozby, Ramzie, and Hudson; sister, Marlene Noyes; brother, Jerry (Carolyn) Van Keulen; sister-in-law, Veronica Van Keulen; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents; and siblings Allan, Bernetta, Dennis, who died at six months of age, and a brother in infancy, and brother-in-law Jules Noyes.
