The funeral service for Steven “Steve” Stensrud, 74, of rural Cottonwood, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A private family interment will take place at a later date.

Steven Vernon Stensrud was born on November 25, 1951, in Clarkfield, to Vernon and Ruth (Belling) Stensrud. They lived in rural Clarkfield for a few years before the family moved to the farm near Cottonwood, where he lived for most of his life. Steve graduated from Cottonwood High School, then joined the National Guards. Steve met Mary Jean Lindsay at a party, and the couple was married on July 15, 1972, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood. They raised their children on the home farm. Steve raised hogs, and he farmed with his brother Stan for many years. In his free time, Steve could be found fixing tractors or reading. He loved history, and he collected John Wayne memorabilia and toy tractors.

Steve died on under the care of hospice on Monday, August 17, 2026, at his residence, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Mary Jean Stensrud; son Jason Stensrud; daughter Jessica (Scott) Wernimont; grandchildren Jorgetta, LeAnn (Trevin), Julie, Emmy (Noah), Colter, Bella, Janeah, Jak-Hari, Dalten (Megan), Shelten (Haylie), and Payten; great-grandchildren Braxton, Rustyn, and Kenzley; siblings Sue Ackerman, Stan (Conni) Stensrud, and Sandra Torke; as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Ruth, in-laws Gilbert and Rosella Lindsay, and brothers-in-law Joe Ackerman and Bruce Torke.
