YELLOW MEDICINE COUNTY, Minn. — The Hinz Brothers family has been recognized as the Yellow Medicine County Farm Family of the Year.

The fifth-generation farm, located near Wood Lake, is led by brothers Ben and Mike Hinz. The operation includes corn and soybean production, along with cattle and hogs. In addition to farming, Hinz Brothers provides trucking, custom lime application, turkey and chicken litter application, and manure spreading services.

The farm is a true family operation. Mike and Allison Hinz work alongside their children, Carter, Payton, Olivia and Taylor, while Ben and Jen Hinz are joined by their children, Kailey, Kiara, Adison and Avery. Dale and Carol Hinz also remain involved. Family members help with daily chores, livestock vaccinations, shipping and baling hay. The operation also employs three full-time workers and H-2A seasonal employees during the summer and fall.

The Hinz family is active in the community, donating meat from the farm to Warriors and Walleyes, an organization that provides outdoor experiences for veterans. Their children participate in FFA activities, and Mike Hinz serves on the Yellow Medicine County Planning and Zoning Board and the county Variance Board.
