Arla (Hoehne) Engen, age 87, of Hendricks, MN, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024 in Marshall, Minnesota. Funeral services will be 11:00 am Monday, November 4, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Brethren Church in Hendricks, MN with Rev. Darren Shaw officiating.  Visitation will be 5 – 7 pm with a 7 pm Prayer Service on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN and will resume Monday one hour prior to the service at the church. Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 4th at 3pm at the Lamberton Cemetery, Lamberton, MN with Rev. Cathy Tetrick Hoffbeck officiating.

Arla M. (Hoehne) Engen was born on July 8, 1937 in Windom, Minnesota to Carl and Lorita (Brown) Nielsen and grew up in Reading, Minnesota. She attended school in Worthington, Minnesota and received her teaching degree at Northern State Teacher’s College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Following her education, she began teaching 2nd grade at Jeffers, Minnesota.  Arla was united in marriage to Glenn Hoehne on December 20, 1958 and the couple lived in Lamberton, Minnesota where they raised their two children, Chad and Diane. She lost Glenn to cancer in 1990. She married Roger Engen in September of 1993 and moved to Hendricks, Minnesota.  Arla is an artist and has always been creative. She loved to paint, do crafts, bake and sew. She loved to do gardening, swim and play golf. Arla loved to teach and continued to do so throughout her life. She was a camp counselor, school teacher, Sunday school and bible school teacher. Arla loved to sing and enjoyed participating in church and community choirs. For many years she played mandolin and sang old time country and gospel with husband Roger in the Northwoods Country Band. They performed at festivals, state fairs, local community centers and churches. She also loved to help Roger on the farm.

She is survived by husband Roger Engen; children: Chad (Sally) Hoehne, Diane Hoehne, Jeff (Cris) Engen, Denise (John) Olson, Kevin (Jean) Engen, and Steve Engen; grandchildren: Justin Hoehne, Jamie (JJ) Arens, Scott (Hannah Moerke) Engen, Greg (Brittany) Olson, Kellen (Danielle) Engen, Lucas Engen, Jacob (Jenna) Engen and Davis (Aletha Baker) Engen; great grandchildren: Willow and June Olson, Josephine and Alexander Arens, and Damien Engen; brother, Marv (Mary Anne) Nielsen and sisters: Virginia (Joe) Rudberg and Donna (Travis) Ripple.  Arla was preceded in death by her first husband Glenn Hoehne, grandson Jake Hoehne, parents Carl and Lorita (Brown) Nielsen, and brothers: Glen, Gerald and Cliff Nielsen.
