Theresa (Theis Gladis) Skorczewski, age 81, of Marshall, formerly of Arco, MN, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Heritage Pointe Senior Living in Marshall. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022, at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Wilno, MN. Burial will be in the St. John Cantius Catholic Cemetery, Wilno. Visitation will be Friday, January 7th one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.
Our beloved mother Theresa Irene Theis (Gladis) Skorczewski formally of Arco, MN, passed away December 29, 2021, at Heritage Point Senior Living in Marshall, MN, surrounded by her family.
Theresa was born October 25, 1940, in Staples, MN to Michael and Esther “Irene” (Wilson) Theis, she was the youngest of 7 children. Theresa always felt herself blessed to have survived as she was born 17 days before the Armistice Day blizzard. The family moved many times in her childhood, finally settling in Ghent, MN in 1955. After moving to Ghent, Theresa attended Lynd High School in Lynd, MN. She finally had the opportunity to become involved in school and participate in activities. She also formed friendships that she enjoyed to her final days. In May 1957, while at the Ghent ballroom she was introduced to Jim Gladis from Ivanhoe, MN. On April 2, 1959, Jim and Theresa were married in Fairmont, MN. In those first years the couple resided in Ghent, Marshall and the Ivanhoe area, all along starting their family. In February 1966 the family moved back to Ghent and their family continued to grow. In 1983 the family moved to Arco, MN. In 1992 Theresa married Marcellus Skorczewski, they remained together until his death in 1994. Theresa then moved to Tyler, MN. At age 55, Theresa started a new career in healthcare attending Pipestone Technical College for LPN. Due to a family tragedy, she was unable to complete the course but moved to home health care. She found great fulfillment in giving cares especially to the child named Sam, who filled her heart with joy. With new health concerns Theresa had to quit being a caregiver. At this time Theresa returned to Arco, where she resided until January 2019. While living in Arco she became a prolific writer, blogger, enjoyed cooking new and different foods, painting, gardening, playing cards, trips to the casino and using social media. In January 2019 Theresa moved to Heritage Point Senior Living in Marshall, MN. Here she continued to write, paint, play cards, read, make new friends, engaging in conversation, day trips around the area, shopping and the occasional trip to the casino with Sybil.
Theresa is survived by her children: Kirsty (Craig) Deslauriers, Jim Jr. (Becky Leibfried) Gladis, Shirley (Hammerlink) Gladis, Mitch (Janet Gramstad) Gladis, Steve (Rocio Mendez) Gladis, Mary (Patrick) O’Reilly, Tom (Denise Halling) Gladis and Scott (Jen Short) Gladis, 27 grandchildren, 22+ great grandchildren, sister: Betty (Ben) Feldman, sisters-in-law: Sandy (Dale) Theis and Sue (Mike) Theis, many nieces, nephews, cousins, close-dear friends including the ladies at the meal table and her neighbor Doris. Theresa is preceded in death by her son, Lee Gladis, grandchildren: Jennifer Gladis and Cory Gladis, sisters: Hazel (Paul) Marty, Bonnie (Willard) Walters, brothers: David (Mary) Kuhns, Dale Theis and Mike Theis, husband, Marcellus Skorczewski, niece, Betty, nephews: Kenneth and Winton and great niece, Donna.
