The hardest part about SLEEPING as a parent . . . is the part where everyone else in the house is also supposed to be asleep.
Researchers talked to mothers with young kids about SLEEPING, and their report has some pretty wild stats.
1. 62% of mothers feel they need permission from someone else to prioritize sleep, guilt-free. (This surely includes partners and grandparents. And now that you KNOW THIS, you know the value of the gift of sleep.)
2. 55% would rather be given a sleep day than a spa day.
3. 83% wake up feeling unrested, regardless of hours slept.
4. 77% say their bedroom is one of the last rooms to get home-improvement attention. (Maybe we should normalize refreshing the PARENTS’ room as we are setting up the nursery, pre-baby.)
5. 94% have fallen asleep somewhere unexpected since becoming a mom.
The top unexpected places are: A sofa or a comfy chair (82%) . . . their child’s bed (56%) . . . the car (33%) . . . the floor (28%) . . . their desk (26%) . . . and the dinner table (18%). (Which should be funny. If it isn’t a little sad.)
6. The average sleep for moms with kids ages two and under is 5.9 hours, with 89% feeling unrested. The average for ALL moms is 6.5 hours, with 83% feeling unrested.
