The pursuit was last heading westward toward Lincoln County and the suspect vehicle was a tan Jeep Liberty and the suspected driver was Juan Antonio Ruiz. Ruiz was believed to be in possession of a handgun and had a Lyon County outstanding felony warrant for 1st Degree Assault and a second Department of Corrections outstanding warrant for Predatory Offender Failing to provide Notice of Change of Address. The Jeep Liberty was believed to have been spotted near the intersection of US Hwy 75 and travelling west on ST Why 19 by the Lincoln County Law enforcement. The vehicle was positively identified by its license plate and when Lincoln County Law Enforcement attempted to make a traffic stop, the vehicle failed to oblige. The Jeep, with cops on its tail, went through two cities, onto state hi-ways, county hi-ways, county roads, and gravel township roads for 38 miles with speeds up to 70-75 mph. The vehicle swerved away from a tire deflation device as two Lyon County Deputies joined the pursuit. Once the chase entered Minneota, the Police Chief took over, pursuing the Jeep on St Hwy 68 towards Ghent. A second tire trap was set up at the intersection of St Hwy 68 and 330th St. Trying to swerve, the Jeep lost control and flew into the ditch, stopping a short distance into a corn field. The driver was identified as Ruiz, and has since been booked into the Lyon County Jail.
