Large turnout for hearing on future of Lyon County’s curbside recycling program

MARSHALL (KMHL) – More than 100 people turned out to a public hearing last night held by Lyon County Commissioners on the future of the county’s curbside recycling program. Commissioner Charlie Sanow told the crowd they never intended to permanently cancel curbside service in the county, but he says the timeline was tough after the current hauler exercised a 90-day opt out in the contract with the county. Mary Jean Malmquist was born on February 18, 1929 in Sibley, Iowa to Harm and Alma Hackman Martens.  She grew up near Rushmore, MN, and graduated from Worthington High School in 1947.  On August 28, 1949 she and Homer Malmquist were married at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Rushmore.  Following their marriage they made their home in Lake Wilson, MN until 1985 when they moved to Granite Falls, MN for one year.  They then moved to Clara City for one year before settling in Balaton, MN.  In 2013 they moved to Lakeview Senior Housing in Balaton.  Homer passed away on April 17, [...]

RUTH ELAINE JOHNSON was born on January 27, 1944, to Thomas and Margaret (Beers) Scotting in Lake Wilson, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist church in Ruthton, Minnesota and attended school here as well. For the majority of Ruth’s career, she worked in various food service positions and truly loved her work. Ruth and Raymond also owned and operated a restaurant in town for over 20 years. On April 5, 1968, Ruth was united in marriage to Raymond Johnson at Bethany Elim Lutheran Church in Arco, Minnesota. The two made their home in Ivanhoe, Minnesota where Ruth passed away [...]

Tracy woman injured in Redwood County Jeep rollover

MARSHALL (KMHL) – A Tracy woman was injured when the vehicle she was driving rolled near Aspen Avenue, east of Marshall Thursday. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office says Karen Poco, 58, of Tracy was taken to the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center for injuries when the 2014 Jeep she was driving rolled. Authorities say Poco’s Jeep was totaled.

Warrant for explosives suspect issued after he skips hearing in Kandiyohi County

WILLMAR (KMHL) – A warrant has been issued for the arrest of a Benson man who has been charged with having a bomb in his vehicle last month near Willmar. Randy Frederiks, 31, of Benson didn’t appear for a pretrial hearing in Kandiyohi County District Court Thursday. Frederiks was arrested in August after authorities discovered a bomb in a pickup he was driving north of Willmar. He was freed from the Kandiyohi County Jail after posting bail, but didn’t attend the scheduled hearing on Thursday.
