Commissioners vote to raise solid waste fees

MARSHALL (KMHL) – Lyon County Commissioners yesterday voted to increase the county’s solid waste assessment for 2020.

The commissioners voted to increase the assessment by $20 per year, which increases the rate to $50 for properties in town and to $40 a year for rural properties.

County officials estimate that by raising the fee by $20 a year it will help the county generate about $510,000. It is the first time the fee has been raised since 2008.

Commissioners say the assessment increase will go to help pay for the Lyon County recycling program.
