MARSHALL (KMHL) – Charges have been filed against two men in connection with the Magellan Pipeline leak that occurred nearly three months ago.

Tanner Sik, 19, has been charged with first-degree criminal damage to property and Eric Weckwerth Pineda, 23, also faces a charge of aiding and abetting property damage.

Sik appeared in Lyon County District Court yesterday, while Weckwerth Pineda did not appear for a scheduled hearing.

A criminal complaint alleges Sik and Pineda were shooting guns near the Cottonwood Lake Dam, when Sik shot at and struck the pipeline. The gunshot punctured the pipeline causing thousands of gallons of diesel fuel to spill.

Damage to the pipeline topped $167,000 dollars.
