RENVILLE, Minn. — A Wisconsin man is expected to face criminal charges following a two-vehicle crash that caused a semi-truck to catch fire north of Renville Tuesday evening.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office says the crash happened around 6:54 p.m. October 27 at the intersection of County Road 6 and 840th Avenue in Emmet Township.

According to the preliminary investigation, a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 32-year-old Marco Rodriguez of Plover, Wisconsin, failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a southbound 2019 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by 28-year-old Alejandro Hernandez-Ruiz of Springfield. Both vehicles entered a ditch and sustained disabling damage. The semi-truck then caught fire.

Hernandez-Ruiz was treated at the scene for burn injuries and released. Rodriguez left the scene before law enforcement arrived but was later apprehended and treated for injuries at Olivia Hospital & Clinic.

Authorities believe driver impairment was a factor in the crash. The Renville County Attorney’s Office is expected to formally charge Rodriguez. The crash remains under investigation.

The Renville County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Renville Police Department, Renville Fire Department, Renville Medical Response Unit and Olivia Ambulance Service.
