Warren “Runt” Joseph Roberts was born on October 25, 1935, in Marshall, to Henry “Hank” and Emma “Amy” (Lee) Roberts. He grew up in Marshall and enlisted in the United States Air Force while in high school. While working at the Duluth air station in teletype maintenance, he met Bernice Anderson at a roller skating rink. The couple was married on June 27, 1959, in Duluth. As a military family, they moved all over the world, including Japan, Turkey, and Germany, and Runt also served in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force in 1975 and the family moved back to Marshall. Runt worked for Eggermont Vending Company filling cigarette machines for a few years, then bar tended part time at the American Legion and Eagle’s Club.  In high school, Runt enjoyed running track and playing football. In later years, he enjoyed watching Gunsmoke and sports, but especially the Minnesota Twins. He loved his dog Goldie, and Goldie only loved him. He liked to sit outside and watch birds and traffic. He especially loved time spent with family, and also picking on the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a proud member of the American Legion, Eagle’s Club, and VFW.
