Virginia Norma (Jaeger) Schneider, age 96 of Westbrook, formerly of Mapleton, MN passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2022 at Grace Lutheran Church in Westbrook. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Westbrook Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Burial is in the Westbrook Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service – Westbrook Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Virginia Norma (Jaeger) Schneider was born July 13, 1926 in Mapleton, MN to Alvin Sr. and Lillie (Bleck) Jaeger. She was baptized on August 1, 1926 and confirmed on June 25, 1939, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mapleton. She attended District 56 country school through the 7th grade, and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1943, and then furthered her education at Mankato Commercial College. Following commercial college, Virginia worked at the Mapleton National Bank, which was during WWII. When the boys came home from the war, she had to give her job back. She then went to work at the National Citizen’s Bank in Mankato. On June 16, 1951, Virginia married Elton Schneider at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mapleton. They lived and farmed in Rosehill Township on the Schneider family farm which was homesteaded in 1875. Elton and Virginia were blessed with 2 children: Jim and Kay. Following Elton’s death in 1975, Virginia and Kay moved into Westbrook. Since 2014, Virginia had been lovingly cared for at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont, MN. Virginia was very active in her church and community. She was treasurer of the church council, held various offices in WELCA in both home congregation and the conference, was treasurer of the hospital Auxiliary and Community Chest, and was a Sunday School teacher. She was also known for the 100 quarts of pickles she canned each year. Virginia enjoyed traveling and made trips to Europe, Hawaii, and yearly visits to her sister in Arizona. She loved spending time with her family. She will be remembered as a kind, faithful and generous person who always had a smile.
Virginia is survived by her children: James (Valorie) Schneider of Westbrook, and Kay (Doug) Lemke of Ceylon, MN; 6 grandchildren: Justin (Briana) Schneider, Luke (Brittany) Schneider, David (Shanell) Schneider, Daniel (Sandra) Schneider, Jake (Amanda) Lemke, Alison (Justin) Dancs; 15 great-grandchildren: Kenley, Tate & Payton Schneider, Thea, Krew & Finn Schneider, Brooklyn, Paisley & Harlyn Schneider, Melanie & Leah Schneider, Asher & Juniper Lemke, Logan & Simon Dancs; sister-in-law Joan Jaeger; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Elton; parents Alvin & Lillie Jaeger, sisters: Irmgard (Roland) Schubbe, Lilla (Warren) Sanborn, brothers: Donald, Calvin & Pete Jaeger, and father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Anna Schneider; brother-in-law Alward (Charlotte) Schneider and sister-in-law Melva (Jene) Ward.
