Vickie Rea Averill was born on November 14, 1957, to Charles and Lorraine (Griffith) Averill in Tracy, Minnesota. She grew up in Tracy and attended school there, graduating with the high school class of 1976. Vickie then went on to continue her education in Willmar where she studied accounting. She then moved to Marshall and began working for a few years before finding employment with the Schwan Food Company in 1979. Shortly thereafter she met Kim Bartness and the two had an instant connection.  On October 3, 1987, Vickie and Kim were united in marriage at the Tracy Lutheran Church and made their home in Marshall where they raised their daughter, Cassie. Vickie spent 43 years working with Schwan’s in various departments assisting with bookkeeping and accounts payable and left her job there in May of this year.  Family was everything to Vickie. She cherished any time she was able to gather with loved ones. Some of her fondest memories included road trips and vacations involving family/friends, trips to Sioux Falls with her sisters, and family Christmases. In recent years, she adored (and spoiled) her grandchildren more than anything in the world. She loved showing photos and videos of them to everyone. A few of her favorite things were country music, reading, her weekly TV shows, anything with sparkles, good food, and Amazon Prime. Vickie had the biggest, most generous heart and was always one to lend a listening ear to those around her.

Vickie Bartness died unexpectedly at the Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Thursday, December 1, 2022. She had reached the age of 65 years and 17 days. Blessed be her memory.

She is survived by her loving husband, Kim Bartness of Marshall; daughter, Cassie (and Jeff) Kyllo of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Julia and Myles Kyllo; sisters, Lori (and George) Hebig of Tracy, Diane (and Curt) Mercie of Marshall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.  Vickie was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Lorraine Averill; sister, Sandra Minnig; and her brother, Eugene Averill.
