Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Jasper, Minnesota. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hartquist Funeral Home – Pipestone Chapel.
Viola “Vi” May Facile was born on January 11, 1937, in Pipestone, Minnesota. She was the fifth child of Henry August and Viola Mae (Lange) Dahms. Her mother passed away (from influenza and pneumonia) when she was just five days old and subsequently, she was named after her. Henry later married Alice Landgren to which six more children were born. Vi’s early years were in Pipestone, but her family moved to Jasper, where she attended Jasper High School, graduating in 1954. On April 16, 1955, she united in marriage to Robert Neil Facile at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper. The couple lived on the family farm north of Jasper where they raised six children. Vi managed the finances for their ranch business and devoted her life to nurturing, supporting, and watching over her children in so many ways. Later in life, she cherished being involved with her grandchildren as well.
In 1974 the family moved into town (Jasper) until 1978 when they moved back to the family farmstead, where they remained until retirement in 1997. Retirement precipitated a move to a one-level home in Holland, MN. In 2015, Vi moved into an apartment in Ivanhoe, MN, to be closer to her youngest son, Curby and his family. On April 6, 2022, she entered the care of the Avera Tyler Nursing Home where she passed away on Sunday, April 10th, at the age of 85. Vi became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and in later years, St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. Vi had the heart and eye of an artist. She loved to sketch with a pencil and became a self-taught painter with her own unique style. She painted portraits of people, scenes from the ranch as well as the mural scenes of the liturgical year which hung in the annex of St. Joseph Catholic Church for many years. She had a soft spot for all kinds of animals and loved bird-watching as life slowed down. She was a talented and generous seamstress, sewing everything from clothing to ornate costumes for her grandkids. She loved making “old” things “new” again and she re-upholstered furniture for many folks over the years. Vi’s open home, hard work, and love were the “glue” that bound our families together with many years of laughter-filled holidays. Her family and friends will miss her easy laugh and sassy sense of humor. Those who knew her well knew how much she enjoyed a “hot” cup of black coffee especially when it came with a good conversation.
Vi is lovingly remembered by her children, Timothy (Kim) Facile of Maplewood, MN, Tarry (Barb) Facile of Eden Prairie, MN, Curby (Michelle) Facile of Ivanhoe, MN, Lorry (Jeff) Conrad of Tyler, MN, and Lynn (Steve Kuchta) Facile of Yankton, SD; nine grandchildren, Jesse (Lindsay) Facile, Keirin (Josh) Finch, Mara (Shane) Miller, Emily Facile, Dan Facile, Nikki Facile, Tony Conrad, Chelsea (Trey) Buchholz, and David Kuchta; two great-grandsons, Liam and Marty Miller; one brother, Boyd (Sue) Dahms of Rudd, IA; sister-in-law, Jeanne Facile of Brandon, SD; brothers-in-law, Dale (Rosalee) Facile of Jasper, and David (Susan) Facile of San Antonio, TX; and many other loving nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Facile; son, Craig Facile; siblings, Donavan, Francis, Verlyn, Melva, Alvina, Delbert, Gary, Jim, and Dean; and one brother-in-law, Ardell Facile.
