Un Kyong Yi was born on October 28, 1950, in Seoul, South Korea. After graduating from high school, Un immigrated to the United States and had her first daughter, Aileen. She returned briefly to Korea where she had her second daughter, Brandy. She always carried a brilliant smile, sharp wit and a silent sense of rebellion.  As part of a military family, they moved several times, spending time in California, Texas, Arizona, Alaska, Georgia, and Minnesota. Un worked for the Army Air Force Exchange Service and spent her free time teaching her daughters the art of crabbing and how to dig for clams. She had an uncanny ability to find the perfect place to spend weekends and vacations. Un owned her own business prior to retiring in South Dakota. In 2021, she moved to Marshall to be closer to her “good and handsome” grandsons.  Un found happiness in entertaining and feeding her family and friends. If you were new to her, the amount of her food you ate was directly proportional to how much she liked you. Un enjoyed going to the beach, camping, puzzles, Bingo, and playing cards. She spoiled her grandsons and enjoyed hours of spirited banter with them. Un also cared for (really fussed over) her prized Maltese, Vanilla Bean.

Un died unexpectedly on Thursday, January 2, 2025, in Marshall, Minnesota. She had reached the age of 74 years, 2 months, and 5 days. Blessed be her memory.

Un was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her daughters, Aileen Howard of Newport News, VA, Brandy Ricketts of Wabasso; 3 grandchildren, Christian Ricketts, Braedan Ricketts, Jessica (and Anthony) Conner; sister, Yi Young Ho of Korea; many other relatives and friends.
