The funeral service for Steven Paxton, 71, of Marshall, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall.  Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 5, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall.  Visitation will continue on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Interment will follow the service at the Marshall Cemetery. A livestream of the service will be available at the Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church YouTube Channel.  The Horvath Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.  

Steven George Paxton was born to Milford and Evelyn (Marks) Paxton on February 29, 1952.  He was baptized on March 16, 1952, and confirmed in the Christian faith at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 3, 1966.  He attended Marshall Senior High School and went on to Alexandria Vo-Tec to study graphics.  After he finished his schooling, he began working at Paxton Signs.  Steven was the youngest sibling of the Paxton Signs crew.  He grew up lettering by hand with his dad and brother from a young age.  Steven, John and Milford became business partners in 1973 and worked together for many years until the business closed in 2011.  After Paxton Signs closed, Steven found a new job and enjoyed working at Menards.  Steven always kept active in the church as a Sunday School Teacher and Council Member.  He spent many years active at SMSU and the Marshall Community.  Steven was a genuine soul.  He always had a big heart and will always be remembered for his love, laughter and smile.

Steven died unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at his residence in Marshall.  He is survived by his cousin and roommate Timothy Eibs, sister Betty (Floyd) Albee, sister-in-law Kathy Paxton, nieces and nephews; Kristen (Brad) King, Adam (Lane) Albee, Amber (Steve) Swenson, Abram (Jill) Albee, Zach (Shelley) Paxton, Tabitha (Kurt) Schultz, Isaac (Katie) Paxton and many great ones too who loved him dearly.  He was preceded in death by his father Milford Paxton, mother Evelyn (Marks) Paxton and his brother John Paxton.  In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church or the charity of donor’s choice.
