Richard Illg 86 of Currie, MN passed away at Our House Hospice Home in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. Memorial services will be at IHM Church in Currie, MN on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Currie, MN. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.
Richard Illg was born on February 7, 1937, in Slayton, Minnesota to Vincent and Neva Konold Illg. He grew up near Slayton and graduated from Slayton High School. On May 18, 1957, he and Theresa Ruppert were married at IHM Church in Currie, MN. Following their marriage, they made their home in Currie for a year before moving to a farm south of Currie where they farmed for 10 years. While farming Richard also worked for Slayton Farm Chemical. In 1965 they retired and moved to Currie. Retirement did not last long for Richard. He went to work for Siebe’s Electric Motor Repair in Slayton for a time before starting work for the City of Currie. Due to failing health Richard moved to Our House Hospice Home in Slayton on Tuesday, June 6, 2023. He passed away there on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at the age of 86. He was a member of the IHM Church in Currie and a member of the Currie Fire Department for over 20 years. Richard enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, camping, and driving around the countryside.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Illg of Currie, MN, seven children and their spouses, Julie Nagel of Fort Dodge, IA, Joan and Mike Hart of Wellington, CO, Randy Illg of St. James, MN, Lori Illg of Bayfield, CO, Cindy and Randy Kruse of Sartell, MN, Rick Illg of St. Cloud, MN, Marie and Brian Schultz of Monticello, MN, special family friend, Toni Galvin of Currie, MN, 21 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, three siblings and their spouses, Gene and Dottie Illg of Minneapolis, MN, Marlow Illg of Minneapolis, MN, Char and Paul LeBrun of Monticello, MN, one brother-in-law, Bob Chermack of Minneapolis, MN and several nieces and nephews and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, son, Steve Illg, three siblings, Gerald Illg, Joretta Ohlrich, and Delores Chermack, and father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Agnes Ruppert.
Memorial Services will be held at the IHM Church in Currie, MN on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. R. Paul Heiting officiating. The organist is Patty LeClaire. The song leader is Luke Radke. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery in Currie, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
