Myron H. Anhalt, age 83, of Canby, MN passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby, MN.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic CDC guidelines, a private family service will be held at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN. Burial will be at the St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Canby, MN. A Celebration of Life for the public will be held at a later date.

Myron Harold Anhalt was born in Midway, Montana on January 18, 1937 to Harold and Leona (Footh) Anhalt. Shortly thereafter the family moved back to Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ormro Township, Clarkfield, MN. He attended St. John’s Parochial, country school and schools in Boyd and Clarkfield before graduating from Canby High School in 1954.

Myron married Darlene Winter, the love of his life, on April 22, 1958 at Zacchaeus American Lutheran Church in Canby, MN. They had two children.

They began their farming life near Lake Cochrane where Myron worked as a farm hand and rented land. In 1964 they purchased their first farm in Manfred Township North of Canby. In 1991 they moved to Freeland township where they lived until retiring and moving into Canby. Myron lived and breathed farming and was well-known as a hard worker.

Myron and Darlene loved traveling and took many trips across the country. They enjoyed wintering in Texas for over 10 years and in Florida for 3 years. While in Texas he learned the skill of woodcarving which expanded into other forms of wood art. He was part of the Canby Area Woodcarvers. Myron enjoyed fishing trips to Canada and Alaska, in addition to many Minnesota and South Dakota lakes. He and Darlene danced with the Gary 8’s Square Dance Club for several years. Myron really enjoyed his grandchildren and taught them a variety of practical skills in addition to fun things like how to play bean bags and buck joker.

Myron was an active member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

Grateful for having shared Myron’s life is his wife of 62 years, Darlene Anhalt of Canby; his two children: Mike Anhalt (Jill) of Canby, MN and Tammy Anhalt-Warner (Dennis Warner) of Clearwater, MN. He was blessed with three grandchildren: Josh Anhalt (Alicia) – Hannah, Hailey and Levi; Jared Anhalt (Gena) – Tessah and Camron and Jordan Anhalt (Ashley) – Jace and new baby due in July), sister Marilyn Footh and brother Dale (LaVonne) Anhalt, many nieces and nephews and numerous friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Karen Mamer and her husband Jim and brother-in-law Earl Footh.
