Michael “Mike” Swan, age 58, passed away on October 05, 2023, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.  Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Sillerud Lutheran Church in Balaton, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to DAC, TAC and CCSI in Worthington.  Benson Funeral Home in Worthington is in charge of arrangements.

Michael Dean Swan was born October 13, 1964 to Leon and Judy (Huebner) Swan in Tracy, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm by Balaton and was baptized and confirmed at Sillerud Lutheran Church. At 3 years old he attended a Daycare for Special Needs in Slayton (the first of its kind). He started Public School at the age of 5 years old in Tracy, Minnesota. He graduated at the age of 21 with the class of 1986.  Michael moved to Worthington, Minnesota in 1987 where he resided with his housemates for the remainder of his life. Michael was employed at TAC and DAC in Worthington.  Michael was a social butterfly and enjoyed many activities and hobbies. He was a Special Olympic Torch runner and competed in softball throw, long jump and 100-yard dash throughout school. He attended many family sporting events, SOS camp at Lake Shetek, summer vacations at Smith Lake Resort with family and many more. He was well known in the Balaton community.  While residing in Worthington Mike enjoyed softball league, bowling league, annual Turkey Days parade with his housemates and friends. You were always guaranteed a “Mike smile” when a cheeseburger, fries and coke were mentioned. We often hear it said, “it takes a village” and Mike was blessed with beautiful caring people that cared for him throughout his whole life and in return Mike touched the lives of many.

Mike passed away surrounded by family on October 5th, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center at the age of 58 years old.

Mike is survived by his mother Judy Swan of Balaton; sister Lesa Scharfe of Balaton; Todd Swan and wife Kelley of Balaton, sister Connie and husband Jim Weinstein of Maple Grove; Nieces Katie Scharfe of Balaton; Emily and husband Justin Lukso of Navarre, Florida children Olivia, Brady and Kinlee; Seth and wife Ashley of Balaton children Emma, Avery, Ruby and Wyatt; Alec and wife Meredith of Balaton; Brandon Weinstein of Minneapolis and Ellie Weinstein of Madison, Wisconsin.  Proceeding in his death are his father Leon Swan and grandparents Oscar and Anna Swan; Rudolph and Rosetta Huebner.
