Melissa Dee Sagmoe was born July 21, 1975 in Hendricks, Minnesota to Deane and Beatta (Olson) Sagmoe. She was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church. Missy graduated from Lincoln HI High School in Ivanhoe, MN in 1993 and received her Bachelors Degree in Music Education from South Dakota State University in 1998. After graduating college, she began her teaching career at Central Elementary and then moved to Camelot Intermediate School in Brookings, where she was employed until present. She was also blessed to serve as Music Director for Faith Reformed Church, where she organized and lead the music for services, directed the adult choir/praise team and lead songs for their Kid Connection and VBS programs. Missy enjoyed playing the piano and singing with her sisters and golfing with her nephew, Henry. Although she never had any biological children, she considered her nephew and her music students as her own.
Our beloved Missy had an aneurysm on May 12, 2022 and was on the road to recovery when she had a heart attack on May 24th and passed away at the age of 46 years, 10 months and 3 days. She was a wonderful daughter, sister and friend to all and the light of our lives.
Grateful for having shared Missy’s life is her mother, Beatta and sisters, Jodi of Hendricks and Heidi (Darren) Swenson and nephew, Henry of Mitchell, SD and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Missy is preceded in death by her father, Deane “Bucky” Sagmoe and her grandparents. She was a beautiful soul with a beautiful smile and voice. We know that she is in heaven with Jesus directing a choir of angels. Blessed be her memory.
