Marcia J. Gingles, age 80, of Canby, MN passed away Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Friday, January 21, 2022, at the First Presbyterian Church in Canby, MN. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery, Canby, MN. Visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, January 20th in the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Canby, MN and will resume Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.  The family requests that because of the flourishing Covid in the area that people attending the funeral wear masks.

Marcia was born on October 6, 1941, to Laurinne and Stanley Erickson in Hallock, MN where she grew up with her sister, Mitzi. She attended Bemidji State College (class of 1963) where she met Gerry. They were united in marriage in Hallock in 1964 and moved to Canby shortly after. Marcia and Nancy Gubrud were the First Kindergarten teachers at Canby Public School. She also taught 1st and 2nd grades, ECFE preschool and talented and gifted before retirement in 2002.  She was a member of the Canby First Presbyterian Church for 58 years. She taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, served as Church treasurer, clerk of session as well as being a Deacon and an Elder. She belonged to the Canby Lions Club. Marcia and her husband traveled extensively, visiting 49 States and 16 foreign countries, including South Korea.  She participated in three mission trips to Louisiana in the years following Hurricane Katrina. She enjoyed many summers at the family cabin on Long Lost Lake, near Itasca State Park and 6 winters at Village Grove in Mesa, AZ.  Marcia lived graciously with inclusion body myositis, a progressive muscle disease, for 16 years before her death at Sylvan Court in Canby. Though her body lost the battle with this disease, her spirit remained unconquerable.

She is survived by husband Gerry H. Gingles, sons Douglas (Angie) Gingles, Brandon, SD, and Patrick (Jakyong) Gingles, Velva, ND, and daughter Kerrin (Rick) Shackelford, Sacred Heart, MN and sister Mitzi Balstad of Fosston, MN. Eight grandchildren, Kevin (Sydney), Brad (Abby), Amanda (Jacob) Griffin, and Kaitlyn Gingles, Rory, Klaira, and Kallie Shackelford, and Kailen Gingles and two great grandchildren, Savanah Gingles and Everett Griffin.  She was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Laurinne (Gardiner) Erickson of Hallock, MN and one grandchild Lincoln Kyo Gingles.
