Lynne Diane (Schulz) McLaughlin, 87, of Marshall, MN, was called home by God on Friday, October 9, 2026. She passed away surrounded by family at the McLaughlin Hospice House, just six weeks after a second pancreatic cancer diagnosis. A true testament to resilience, Lynne gracefully defied this relentless disease for nearly 17 years, living each day to its absolute fullest and trusting completely in God’s plan. Born on March 16, 1939, in Marshall to Howard and Dolores (Larson) Schulz, she was raised in a nurturing environment that inspired her lifelong commitment to faith, education, and community service. Lynne graduated from Stephens College, Columbia MO, in 1959 with a journalism degree and in 1963 earned an elementary education degree from St. Cloud State University. On September 10, 1960, she married Don McLaughlin at St. Mary’s Chapel in Marshall. Together they raised four daughters, instilling in them the values of love, acceptance, and service. Lynne began her teaching career at St. Edward Catholic School in Minneota and later founded Wee Care Preschool in Marshall, leaving a lasting impact on countless children. Faith was the cornerstone of Lynne’s life, guiding her every action and decision. She was a devoted member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and loved the Marshall community, dedicating her time and service to many local boards and organizations. In her free time, Lynne loved to play cards and games with family and friends, tend to her cherished orchids and flowers, express her creativity through poems and stories, and spend time with her children and grandchildren at Green Lake and Sanibel Island.
She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband, Don; her parents; and several other family members and friends. Lynne’s beautiful spirit lives on through her daughters, Laurie McLaughlin (Lisa), Kim (Reuben) Steinbronn, Shelly McLaughlin (Buster), and Kristi (Derek) Sebey; her six cherished grandchildren, Matt (Becky) Steinbronn, Reegan Steinbronn, Lexie Pullin, Mikayla (Corey) Evans, Madison Sebey (Sam), and Brielle Sebey; her great-grandchildren, Remi and Levi Evans; her siblings, Merilee Leonard, Bill Schulz (Sally), Karen (Ed) Fick and Al Wood; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the dedicated caregivers and staff at Boulder Estates and McLaughlin Hospice House for their exceptional care, support, and love. In honor of Lynne’s lifelong spirit of giving, memorial donations may be made to Prairie Home Hospice or Mayo Clinic Cancer Research and Treatment. Lynne’s memory will be cherished by all who knew her, and she will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
