Lorraine P. Grondahl, age 102, of Canby, MN passed away on October 10, 2020, at the Sylvan Court Nursing Home in Canby. A visitation will be held 9 – 11 am on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel with a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Canby City Cemetery in Canby, MN.

Lorraine P Grondahl passed away October 10, 2020, at the age of 102 at Sylvan Court, which is located on the very spot where she was born at Swenson Memorial Hospital in Canby on August 30, 1918, to Clarence and Petra (Stone) Erickson. She graduated from Canby High School in 1936 and attended McPhal school of Music in Minneapolis and Teachers training in Canby and Mankato. She taught in Yellow Medicine Schools for 4 years and, also directed county concerts and choirs in Granite Falls High School Auditorium. After training in Minneapolis at Brown Institute, she obtained a clerical position at the Department of the Navy Bureau of Yard and Docks in Washington during WWII. She worked in a building which was located on the site which is now the World War II Memorial.  After returning from Navy duty in the Solomon Islands aboard USN PT106 Roy and Lorraine were married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Cleveland OH. They resided in Newport Rhode Island where Roy completed his Navy Service. Richard was born at Newport Hospital. Lorraine returned with Richard to Canby where after being discharged from the Navy, Roy worked at the family meat business as a butcher and meat cutter.  Lorraine taught Sunday School for mainly years and later Release Time Classes at Our Saviors. She and Roy sang in the church choir for over 60 years.

Lorraine is survived by her son Richard; her grandchildren Victoria (Bill Hickey) Grondahl, Lindsey (Jason) McCloskey, Allison Grondahl, Kelsey (Thomas) Larson; great-grandchildren Adam and Ethan Grondahl, Casey, Jacob, Connor and Luke McCloskey, Ella Larson. Victoria is a published author under the pen names of Victoria Dahl and Victoria Helen Stone (her great grandmother maiden name), Lindsay and Jason are both High School teachers in California, Allison and Kelsey are both in finance and investment management. Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Roy.
