The funeral service for Lois Brooks, 86, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Marshall, will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 23, 2021, at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the remembrance center.  Interment will take place at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Slayton.

Lois Darlene (Orvis) Brooks was born on May 16, 1935, in Holly Township, Murray County, to Claude and Mabel (Muck) Orvis.  She grew up and graduated from Slayton High School.  Lois worked for Campbell Soup for a time in Worthington.  In 1972, she moved to Marshall where she worked for Swift Company.  Lois raised two sons:  Thomas Orvis and Jeffrey Brooks.  She was an animal lover and enjoyed reading, gardening, crafts, flowers and flower arranging.  Lois lived in Marshall and Sioux Falls through the years.  She volunteered at the Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History in Sioux Falls.  For the last couple of years she had been living at the Bethany Nursing Home.

Lois died on Monday, July 19, 2021, at the Bethany Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, SD.  She is survived by her sons Thomas of Marshall and Jeffrey of Sioux Falls, six grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, sister Kay Worden of Sioux Falls and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Harold “Sunny”, Rosemary, Joyce, Pat, Jackie and one brother in infancy.
