Lee Denekamp of Gary, SD passed away Thursday, August 5, 2021. A Private Graveside Service will be held in the Grandview Cemetery in Gary, SD. Visitation will be from 10 am to 11 am Tuesday, August 10, 2021 in the Gary United Methodist Church, Gary, SD.
Lee Edward Denekamp was born April 2, 1938 at Marietta, MN to parents, LeRoy and Edith (Nelson) Denekamp. He later moved to the Gary, SD and Canby, MN vicinity where he attended country school and graduated from Gary High School. Following high school, Lee proudly honored his country by serving as a Statistical Specialist clerk in the United States Air Force. Upon an honorable discharge and returning home, Lee was employed with Eilly Limberg Construction until beginning farming and continuing until retirement. On December 23, 1967, Lee was united in marriage to Marion Jensen at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Canby, MN and they lived in Canby until moving to the farm. Lee passed away on Thursday, August 5, 2021. The late Pepsi and Gypsi (Blue Heeler dogs) and others were his pride and joy. Lee enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing poker and spending time with friends. Lee was a member of the Peden-Cole American Legion Post #109 of Gary, SD and the Gary Fire Department.
Grateful to have cherished and shared Lee’s life are his loving wife Marion Denekamp, Gary, SD; brother Russell (Kathi) Denekamp, St. Paul, MN; nephew Dan (Nicole) Denekamp, their daughter Sydney and son John, Becker, MN; niece Anita (Shawn) Simonton, Woodbury, MN; sister Nancy (Tim) Bauer, Seattle, WA; nephew Jamie Denekamp (Christy Dyer) and children, Fort Worth, TX; aunt Alice Marotz, Watertown, SD and several cousins and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Edith Denekamp, grandparents and brother Randy Denekamp.
