LaVonne Gackstetter, age 92, of Hendricks, MN passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Hendricks Hospital in Hendricks, MN.  Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Bruce Mueller officiating.  Burial will be in the Hendricks City Cemetery.  Visitation will be 5- 7 p.m. with a 7 pm Prayer service at the Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks and will resume Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.  Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks is entrusted with the arrangements.

LaVonne was born on May 12, 1930 in Brookings County, South Dakota. Her Parents were Arthur and Mathilda (Karstens) Bruening. She was baptized in the Lutheran Church in Elkton, South Dakota. She started her schooling in a rural country school. In 1941 she and her parents moved to Elkton, S.D., where she continued her education and graduated from high school there.  LaVonne married Donald Gackstetter on May 30, 1948 and they made their home on Donald’s family farm. LaVonne became a typical farmers wife. There was always space for an extra visitor’s plate on the family table. Everyone was always welcome. Making meals, running to town for parts, gardening, and helping wherever needed were common daily task.  For fun they enjoyed playing cards, bowling on couple’s league, and traveling in their camper to the warm southern states during the winter. They traveled for 30 plus years and enjoyed meeting many friends. She also was a part of a “Mothers Night Out” club for 50 years where they enjoyed having fellowship together. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved to visit with people, share in a cup of coffee and a treat, and always looked at the positive side of things.

She is survived by her children: Linda (Dan) Kallevig, Charles (Gloria) Gackstetter, Terry (Trish) Gackstetter and Tammy (Ron) Hulsebus; grandchildren: Danny (Renee) Kallevig, John (Lisa)Kallevig, Christine (Malcolm) Gold, Jason (Sarah) Gackstetter, Jeff (fiance JoLynn) Gackstetter, Jina (Edward) Custodio, Jennifer (Gerald) Bloom Lora (Mike) Gackstetter, Austin (Kylie) Gackstetter, Dallas Gackstetter, Joey (Laura) Hulsebus, and Ryan (Lisa) Hulsebus; 29 great grandchildren and one brother Gilbert (Janice) Bruening.  LaVonne is preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 2005, her parents Arthur and Mathilda, her mother and father-in-law Martin and Christine Gackstetter, brother-in-law Howard and wife Bonnie, sister-in-law Rosemarie and her husband Orville.
