Kevin Lee Dubs was born on August 1, 1969, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He was the son of Bobby and Dorothy (Parkin) Dubs. He was baptized as an infant in Groton, South Dakota in September 1969, and later confirmed in his youth at Riverview, both in the United Methodist Church faith. He attended school in Huron, South Dakota, graduating with the high school class of 1988. Kevin went on to further his education at Moorhead State University and graduated there in 1993. He then went to work at Minnesota Diversified Industries in Saint Paul, Minnesota, where he met Sheila Gehrt. On September 15, 2001, Kevin and Sheila were united in marriage at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in St. Paul Park, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Saint Paul until 2005 when they relocated to Marshall. Kevin worked as an insurance agent for Horace Mann for many years before transitioning to North Star Mutual Insurance Company where he was a Senior Claims Representative in the Auto Claims department. Kevin and Sheila spent 21 years of marriage together and had two children: Abby and Brady. Kevin loved people and made friends everywhere he went. He had a keen sense for others’ needs and had a positive impact on so many people in the area – starting with his dedication to the Red Cross blood drives as he was a regular donor. Kevin was active in the Marshall Leadership Academy, was a past Rotary member, MBE (lake association) board member, and Junior Achievement board member and volunteer over many years. His passions included watching and cheering on his children in their activities, reading, hiking, boating, fishing, golfing, yard games, listening to music, and a good campfire. He loved to entertain and cook for others, especially if it provided him an excuse to fire up the grill. Kevin had so many personal connections; his loss will be felt amongst his “Lake family”, his “Huron family”, his “Marshall family”, and many others.
Kevin Dubs died on Friday, January 27, 2023, following complications from a sudden stroke. He reached the age of 53 years, 5 months, and 26 days. Blessed be his memory.
