Ken Hemmingson, age 78, of Marietta, MN passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at his home. Memorial service will be held at 2:00p.m. on Friday, September 30th at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the Grandview Cemetery in Gary, SD with military honors provided by the Marietta American Legion. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel of Canby, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.

Kenneth Wayne Hemmingson was born in Madison, Minnesota on December 9, 1943 to parents Reuel and Johana (Welhouse) Hemmingson. Ken was baptized and confirmed at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Gary, SD. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1961 and then served his country in the United States Navy from 1962-1965. Ken worked in Bloomington, MN for Liberty Carton and later Pillsbury Company. Ken was united in marriage on April 3, 1971 to Sherry Hentges and together they raised three boys. They moved back to farm in Manfred Township in 1973.  In 1986, they moved to Madison, MN where he worked for the MMN-LQP School system as Head Maintenance man until his retirement in March of 2007 when he moved to Marietta, MN.  Ken enjoyed being a spectator to his son’s football, wrestling, track and not so much baseball for countless years and later being the number one fan for his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also enjoyed going on many trail rides and attending horse shows and rodeos. Going camping and fishing were also exciting but his most memorable moments were at the lake spending time with family and friends.  Ken was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was also a past member of the Canby Wranglers and also was a member of the first Gary Rodeo Association.

Grateful for having shared Ken’s life is his wife of 51 years, Sherry Hemmingson of Marietta; sons: Kevin (Rosa) Hemmingson and Kerry Hemmingson of Marietta; five grandchildren: Krista, Caleb, Kolton, Shyanne and Konnor Hemmingson; three step grandchildren: Brittany, Sabrina and Dominic; one sister: Betty Johnson; father-in-law, Jack Hentges; brother-in-law, Mike Hentges and sister-in-law, Vicki Kiley and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Reuel and Jo Hemmingson; son, Kurt Hemmingson; mother-in-law, Loretta Hentges; brother-in-law, Ron Johnson and sister-in-law, Debbie Kloos.
