Kathy Lynn (Terhark) Mitchell was born on October 30, 1958, in Ft. Knox, Kentucky, to Arnold and June (Wendorf) Terhark. Kathy grew up in Balaton and graduated from Balaton High School. She attended Vo-Tech in Willmar to be a medical transcriptionist. She worked for a time in St. Louis Park before moving to Marshall and beginning a long career at ACMC. On August 6, 1983, she was united in marriage to Dennis Mitchell in Balaton. The couple raised their son, Nick, on the family farm near Garvin. Kathy later worked as a nurse scheduler for Avera before retiring in 2020. Kathy loved time spent with family and friends. Kathy and Dennis enjoyed snowmobiling together in their younger years, as well as traveling and spending time at their lake home near Alexandria. She took many trips with her family, whether it be taking her parents on a vacation, or last minute road trips with her sisters. Kathy was exceptionally proud of her son, and she also loved spoiling her “honorary grandchildren”. Kathy was a hardworking farmer’s wife who was willing to help with anything. She was an expert lawn mower, grain cart driver, and parts runner.
Kathy died unexpectedly at her home in Balaton on Friday, November 22, 2024. She is survived by her son Nick Mitchell; mother June Terhark; sisters Deb (Kevin) Stibbe, Becky (Skip) Schreier, and Sherry (Mike) Carter; niece and nephews Kyle (Cassi) Stibbe, Chad (Linnea) Stibbe, Justin (Chriss) Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Dylan (Mikayla) Schreier, Cole Schreier, Josh Carter, and Katie (Tyler) Hruby; great nieces and nephews Corbin, Collins, Madelinn, and Hailie Stibbe; as well as many other relatives and friends.
