Kathryn “Kitty” Larsen, age 87, of Clear Lake, SD passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Sanford Clear Lake Medical Center, Clear Lake, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 4, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake. Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery, Brandt, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the Church. The Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements.

Kitty Lee Larsen was born on October 11, 1931 in Elkton, South Dakota on the farm to Henry and Blanche (Hansen) Boelens. She attended country school in District 10 just south of the farm. After graduating from District 10 she went to high school at St. Mary’s Academy in Dell Rapids, SD. Then she went to General Beadle College in Madison, SD to become a teacher. She taught school in the school that she attended.

On June 28, 1950 she married James Larsen and they lived on a farm in Dell Rapids. The raised five children on the farm. Kitty and Jim lived in Dell Rapids on a dairy farm for 24 years then they purchased a dairy farm by Brandt, SD and lived there for 40 years.

Kitty loved to draw and paint pictures and loved to raise flowers in the house and outside in the summertime. She would help Jim out in the barn with the milking.

Kitty is survived by her five children: Terry (Kathy) Larsen, Huron, SD, Jean (Bob) Blankenship, Reading, CA, James (Sandie) Larsen, Lakewood, WA, Kay (Paul) Giesel, Clear Lake, SD and Lisa Glasgow (Jonathan Rossen), Pleasanton, CA; 10 grandchildren: Jason, Todd, Brent, Lindsey, Heidi, Matt, Meghan, Seth, Billie Jo and Arlen; 15 great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Connie Anderson, St. Paul, MN and Lorna Beyers, Holland MN; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, James; parents; and brother, John Larsen.
