A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2023, for Justin Sperl, 36, of Marshall, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with a Remembrance Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall. A private family interment will take place at a later date in Canby. The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements
Justin Michael Sperl was born on December 10, 1986, in Council Bluffs, IA, to Michael Sperl and Diane (Schonrock) Evans. He grew up in New Ulm, Rochester and St. James and graduated from St. James High School in 2005. He attended Wayne State College in Nebraska where he studied architecture and graphic design for advertising. After his graduation, he moved to Marshall. He worked for Awards Plus for a time and as a Para-Professional and Pre-School Physical Education instructor for Marshall Public Schools.
Justin was a man of many talents and many friends. His father called him “Stretch” and he was very family oriented. He attended most all of his nieces and nephews’ activities. He loved all form of art including drawing, sketching and painting. He loved the outdoors especially camping, fishing, and kayaking. Justin was also a sports fan and enjoyed following professional football and basketball; and was a member of the Walnut Grove Sand Volleyball team. He was a jack of all trades and always willing to help others in need with various projects. He was a former volunteer with the Marshall Fire Department and had many different social circles. Justin was loved by all. He had a smile that could light up a room and a very endearing manner.
On August 14, 2023, he was found resting by his kayak at a Campsite along the Boundary Waters with a view of the water ahead of him. He is survived by his mother Diane Schonrock Evans (and Richard); step-mother Heather Sperl; sister Jessica Sperl of Marshall and her children Anthony Moreno and Annabelle Henline; brother Bobby Schonrock and his children Raya and Rozalea Schonrock of New Ulm; brother Caleb (and Rachel) Sperl and their children Kylee and Adeline of Harrisburg, SD; sister Danielle Sperl and her children Alieah Sperl and Marco Amarillas of Mankato; aunts and uncles including Godmother, Aunt Mary Ellen Schonrock and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father Michael John Sperl; grandparents Hazel and Martin Schonrock and Walter Sperl; Uncle David Schonrock and Aunt Dorothy Sperl.
