Jean Orra (Gulseth) Hanzlik was born on August 20, 1925 on her grandparents’ farm east of Hendricks, MN to Fletcher and Gusta (Eggen) Gulseth. She was the third of nine children, and shared often how she had wonderful parents and great times with her sisters and two brothers. She attended several schools in the Hendricks area and graduated from Hendricks High School. To help out with the need of her family, in the summer, she would work for farm families cooking, baking, and cleaning, during her high school years. After graduation she worked at Red Owl and the dime store in Canby.  On March 4, 1944 she married Charles Hanzlik at St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Canby. They farmed several farms by Canby and Astoria before moving north of Canby where they lived until their retirement from farming in 1975. They had three daughters. Jean was a hard worker, had large gardens on the farm, doing canning, baking, helping with farms chores, even milking the cows when it needed to be done. She sewed most of the clothes for herself and her three daughters. Later she worked as a cook at the Canby School system for 14 years. They enjoyed many trips after retiring, and spending time with family was an important part of their lives.

She is survived by her three daughters: Joan Armitage of Canby, Diane (Alan) Solting of Montevideo, and Lois Teigland of Canby; seven grandchildren: Teresa (TJ Proctor) Menk, Mikel Armitage, Amy (Jeremy) Solting Hamilton, Nicole (James) Ross, Nathan Solting, Jeremy (Maria) Teigland, and Gene (Bridget) Teigland; 15 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Ilenne Reagan and Donna Anderson, and one brother, DuWayne Gulseth.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; two sons-in-law: Sig Armitage and Norman Teigland; one grandson, Jason Armitage; sisters: Fern Heath, Della Dahl, Opal Antony, and Betty Gulseth, and brother, Fletcher Gulseth.

Her care and love will be greatly missed.
