The Zahrbock Funeral Home of Madison announces the death of 58 year old Janine Boraas Bornhorst of Marshall, MN and formerly of Madison who passed away on October 23, 2019 at Marshall, MN.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 1, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church, Madison, MN. Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate at the service. Burial will be in the Appleton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Zahrbock Funeral Home, in Madison, MN and with a time of sharing at 6:30 p.m.

Visitation will continue before the services on Friday at Faith Lutheran, Madison, Minnesota.

On Wednesday, October 23, 2019, Janine (Boraas) Bornhorst passed away in her Marshall, Minnesota home, following a recent hospitalization for pneumonia. She was 58.

Janine was born on December 3, 1960, in Appleton, Minnesota, to Joseph B. and Bernice (Anderson) Boraas. Following graduation from Appleton High School in 1979, she attended St. Cloud State, and then worked in Victoria, Minnesota until returning to Lac qui Parle County.

On April 16, 1988, she married Tom Bornhorst of Madison, Minnesota. They raised two sons, Chavis and Brandon. While living in Madison, Janine served as Lac qui Parle County Recorder for 14 years.

Janine had a passion for animals, particularly cats. She loved listening to music and attended concerts with friends and family, including her sons throughout her life. Bon Jovi was of special status. Everything related to the Norwegian Christmas Traditions of her family held a dear place in her heart. She was known for her generosity, laughing until in tears and her kind and trusting nature.

Janine was preceded in death by her beloved parents as well as brothers Jerome and David.
She is survived by her greatly – loved sons Chavis (Cassie Rust) and Brandon (fiancé Jordan Halvorson), granddaughter Ella, brother Curt, sister JoAnn, sister-in-law Mary, several cousins, nieces and nephews and her cherished cats Denali and Snickers.
