James Haar, age 71, of Marshall, Minnesota, died on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at his home with his family by his side. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 7, 2020, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall, Minnesota. Interment will follow in the Calvary Catholic Cemetery. A live stream will be available on the church’s YouTube channel beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. The recording can also be accessed later.
James Harold Haar was born on August 28, 1948, in Worthington, Minnesota. He was one of 11 children born to Robert and Alicia (Hultquist) Haar. James was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He graduated from Windom High School with the class of 1966. It was during his time at school that he met Ms. Judith Swanson.
On June 28, 1968, Jim was united in marriage to Judy at the St. Francis Catholic Church in Windom. The couple lived in Windom until 1974, when they moved to Lynd for 4 years before moving to Marshall in 1978. They were blessed with over 46 years of marriage and raised three children: Jill, Pamela, and Ryan. James worked for the Minnesota Department of Transportation, specializing on bridge maintenance and snow removal. He loved to work and often spent his “vacation” time working for local contractors.
James’ enjoyments included supporting the Marshall Hockey Association, camping at Shady Oak Campground, spending time at the lake, pontoon rides, and traveling. Spending time in Florida the last couple winters. Jim was always a caregiver and he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.
James Haar entered his heavenly home on Sunday, May 3, 2020 at the age of 71 years, 8 months, and 5 days. Blessed and eternal be his memory.
James is survived by his children, Jill (and Mike) Deutz of Marshall, Ryan (and Rhonda) Haar of Granite Falls; special friend, Mary Johnson of Marshall; 9 grandchildren, Jesse (and Tami) Deutz of Marshall, Alyssa (and Bruce) McDowell of Sioux Falls, SD, Jenessa (and Zac) Blomme of Marshall, Devan (and Whitney) Deutz of Marshall, Andrea (and Jesse) Weniger of El Mirage,AZ, Adam (and Emily) Illies of Wood Lake, Bret Haar of Mitchell, SD, Austin Haar of Granite Falls, Riley Haar of Granite Falls; 10 great-grandchildren, Watson McDowell, Archer Deutz, Brantley Weniger, Jasmine Illies, Joseph Illies, Grayson Weniger, Maribel McDowell, Granger Deutz, Lainey Deutz, Cullen Deutz; siblings, Ruth Ann Schoer (Paul Marunich) of Madison, WI, Roger (Debra) Haar of Westbrook, Bruce (Barbara) Haar of Washington State, Jean (Ron) Morris of Ceylon, Patricia (James) Knorn of Roberts, WI, Karen (Dan) Strausser of Sun Prairie, WI, Darlene “Beanie” Lunz of Windom and Donald (Steve) Haar of Madison, WI; nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Haar and Bernie & Alicia Morningstar; wife, Judy Haar; daughter, Pamela Haar; granddaughter, Baby Girl Haar; and brothers, Richard Haar, Douglas Haar.
