James “Jim” William Edwards was born on November 30, 1942, in Milroy, to Vincent and Elsie (Hagedorn) Edwards. Jim grew up in Milroy and graduated from Milroy High School. He served in the US Army from 1966 until 1968, serving in Korea from 1967-1968. Jim would have gone to Vietnam, but his brother was already there, and since the military did not allow more than one sibling in the same country, he was sent to Korea instead. After returning home, Jim worked as a truck driver for Schlemmer’s in Milroy, hauling grain to and from the Milroy Elevator. Jim was united in marriage to Carol Blomme in February 1974 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. The couple moved from Milroy to Marshall in 1975, where they lived until Jim’s death. After moving to Marshall, Jim worked on the production line at Schwan’s for over 25 years. Jim spent much of his free time golfing, especially with his brother-in-law Larry Kor, and he played in a pool league for many years. Jim also enjoyed summer activities at the lake in Alexandria with family. He was a fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. Jim and Carol escaped the Minnesota winters for over 25 years in Arizona .
Jim died on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at the Avera Tyler Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol, of Marshall; daughter Wendy (Jon) Swanson of Lynd; grandchildren Dylan, Devynn, Teagan, and Colter; brothers Jerry (Sue) of Milroy and Roy (Helen) of Idaho; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Leo, Mary, Kenny, Danny, Delores, Audrey, and Chuck.
