Irene Engesmoe, age 94, of Hendricks, MN, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Hendricks Nursing Home. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hendricks, MN with Rev. Chuck Shingledecker officiating. Burial will be in the Singsaas Cemetery, rural Hendricks. Visitation will be held Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Houseman Funeral Home, Birk Chapel in Hendricks, MN is entrusted with the arrangements.
Irene (Ramlo) Engesmoe was born April 23, 1929, in Hendricks, Minnesota to Jens and Clara (Langoien) Ramlo. She grew up on the family farm until her father passed away when she was seven. They then moved into Hendricks, MN where she attended school and graduated from Hendricks Public School in 1947. She married the love of her life Clifford Engesmoe on November 10, 1948. To this union they had a daughter Twyla Engesmoe and a son Douglas Engesmoe. They originally lived in Sioux Falls, SD for one year and then Marshall, MN for one year. Clifford was offered a job at the Kirkvold Oil Company, and they moved to Hendricks and lived there the rest of their lives. Irene received her Accredited Records Technician Degree and worked at the Hendricks Hospital as the Medical Records Technician. Irene loved to garden, sew, knit, crochet, can foods, play the organ and accordion. She also loved to play board games, dice games, and card games, especially Phase 10. She was also a member of a singing trio with Lois Dorn and Marcella Sandro, as they sang at many church functions and other occasions.
Irene is survived by her son, Doug and his wife Kari; grandson, Drew; brother-in-law, Joe Engesmoe; sisters-in-law, Helen Moffatt and Marcella Sommervold; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Cliff, daughter Twyla, sister Gladys (Ramlo) Thompson, and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
