Gordon Westley, age 82, of Toronto, SD passed away at his home on Thursday, November 12, 2020. Funeral service will be at 10:30am on Wednesday November 18th at Leganger Lutheran Church in Toronto, SD. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at the Toronto City Cemetery. Houseman Funeral Home of Clear Lake is entrusted with the arrangements.
Gordon Stanford Westley was one of twelve children born to Clarence and Clara (Bren) Westley on September 4, 1938 in Toronto, South Dakota. He attended school in Toronto and graduated in 1957. He farmed and drove truck for TBI and also drove a mail truck for MCA. Gordy was also a school janitor for awhile at the Deubrook Elementary School. He drove truck for Canby Farmers Grain until his retirement in 2019. Gordon was united in marriage to Dona Stone on February 26, 1972 and together they raised five sons: Dale, Danny, Douglas, Steven and Bruce. He was a true fan of the Atlanta Braves. When Gordy wasn’t on the road he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He was a member or Leganger Lutheran Church and a former member of the Toronto Volunteer Fire Department.
Grateful for having shared Gordon’s life is his bride of 48 years, Dona Westley; his sons: Dale, Danny, Douglas (Diane), Steven (Cori) and Bruce (Christina) Westley; six grandchildren: Katelynn, Kassidy, Riddick, Quintin, Jacob and Thea and three great-grandchildren: Trey, Tynslee and Laiken; his siblings: Dorothy “Purne” Sand, Rose Westley, Brenda (Mick) Warborg; his mother-in-law, Leona Stone; his in-laws: Carolynn Webber, Ellen (Albert) Schulte Bekaert, Lenae (Myron) Deslauries, Craig (Deb) Stone, Brian Stone, Wade (Sandy) Stone, Dane (Jody) Stone, sisters-in-law, Cricket Stone and Nancy Stone and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Eldon Stone; siblings: Clarice (Don) Ulner, Helen Westley, Darlene (George) Berg, Marlys (Gordon) Peterson, Cleo Westley, Stanley (Ardella) Westley, David (Janet) Westley and Gary Westley; his in-laws: Lawrence Sik, Leon Webber, Don Schulte, Sharon, Paul and Mark Stone.
