Mass of Christian Burial for Gerald Hoffman, 92, of Luverne, formerly of Cottonwood, will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 13, 2022, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood, MN.  Visitation will be Sunday, June 12, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall.  Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Interment with military honors will follow the service at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.  The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements.

Gerald Frank Hoffman was born on September 5, 1929, in Carroll, IA, to Peter and Helen (Overmohle) Hoffman.  He grew up and attended school in Early, IA.  In 1951, Gerald was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Korea as part of the Headquarters Company, 1st Ordinance Battalion, 1st Marine Division, FMF.  On May 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Clara Becker in Mt. Carmel, IA.  The couple lived in Sac City, IA, and Graceville, MN, before moving to a farm South of Cottonwood in 1962.  Gerald attended the Alexandria Vocational Technical School where he earned his Diesel Mechanic degree.  He worked for Mooney Construction in Granite Falls and later for Lyon County where he became the Shop Foreman.  Gerald was very social and quick witted.  He enjoyed fishing and farming.  He also enjoyed playing cards, especially Pinochle with his family.  Gerald died on Friday, June 3, 2022, at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home in Luverne.

He is survived by his children David (and Millie) Hoffman of Papillion, NE, Betty (and Duane) Van Keulen of Balaton, Kathleen (and Bernard) Heck of Hanley Falls, Donna (and Randall) Klaphake of Royalton, MN, Ruth (and Douglas) Peters of Wentworth, SD, Kenneth Hoffman of Sauk Rapids, MN, Daniel (and Donna) Hoffman of Cottonwood, 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Clara.
