Mass of Christian Burial for Genevieve “Genny” Sammons, 87, of Marshall, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall.  Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a CCW Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Parish Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Horvath Remembrance Center in Marshall.  Visitation will continue on Monday from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the remembrance center.  Interment will follow the service at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Marshall.  The Horvath Funeral Service in Marshall is handling the arrangements.

Genevieve “Genny” Mae (DeMeyer) Sammons was born on February 8, 1935, in rural Marshall to Charles and Mary (Cauwels) DeMeyer.  She grew up in Marshall and graduated from Marshall High School.  On September 27, 1958, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Sammons at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.  To this couple were born children Doug, Steve, and Diane.  The family lived in Marshall and when the kids were in school, Genny went to work as the HBC Manager at Hy-Vee.  She was a woman of strong faith and a wry sense of humor.  She and Bill were involved with Marriage Encounter Weekends and the Catholic Renew groups.  Genny was very tidy and meticulous.  She was a 20 year cancer survivor.  She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening and was an excellent cook and baker.  Genny really enjoyed her family.  She liked to play cards and looked forward to family reunions or time especially with the grandchildren.

Genny died suddenly and unexpectedly on Monday, October 17, 2022, at the Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center.  She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Marshall; son Doug Sammons (Mary Herbert) of Groves, TX, grandchildren Melanie (Andrew) Kraemer, Crystal (Matt) Metivier , and Brittany (Justin) Lawrence ; son Steve (Susie) Sammons of Marshall, grandchildren Joshua (Ashley) Sammons, Michelle (Jordan) (JJ) Jacobson, Jeremy Sammons and Rebecca (Jacob) Bottelberghe; daughter Diane (Wayne) Metcalfe of Prior Lake, grandchildren Morgan, Lukas and Madi Metcalf; 12 great-grandchildren; brother Albert DeMeyer, sisters-in-law Ramona and Joyce DeMeyer, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Regina DeMeyer, Edward DeMeyer, Irene Benson and Norbert DeMeyer and brother-in-law Benny Benson.
