Benefit for Russ Hennen – Sunday, May 5th
A free-will pancake breakfast and silent auction will be held at the Echo Community Center on Sunday, May 5th from 10:00 until 1:00 for Russ Hennen. Russ has been an important part of the Echo community, having served 18 years on the fire department, was once part of the Echo Charter School Board, and volunteered help to the Echo Lions Club and other organizations. On March 2nd, 2024, Russ was airlifted to St. Cloud and a day later had surgery to stabilize his spinal cord and was put in a halo. On March 6th, a second surgery was performed. Russ was [...]
Wheels Across the Prairie Heritage Center Annual Meeting
Wheels Across the Prairie Museum 3297 US-14, TracyThe annual meeting for the Wheels Across the Prairie Heritage Center will be at 1 p.m. May 5th. Keynote speaker Nancy Guertner will present at 1:30 pm. A member of the North Star Chapter(of Germans from Russia), Nancy was one of five editors of the chapter's two anthologies "Hollyhocks and Grasshoppers: Growing up German from Russia in America" & "Watermelons and Thistles: Growing up German from Russia in America" both published in 2018. Nancy contributed three essays to the first book, writing about her one-room school and a woman that homesteaded near her grandmother's farm.
